Rachael Parsons was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but has lived in England from the age of 6 and has been singing ever since she can remember. She learned piano and violin alongside singing and enjoyed being saturated in all kinds of music, including school and county choirs and orchestras, church choir, singing and playing violin in a jazz band and singing in an Early Music girls' choir.

At university in Leeds, Rachael studied for a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, but was allowed to join Music Department performance classes and played in both local and university-based choirs and orchestras. Through an educational project she brought music into local schools and conducted the Music Society Chamber Choir in her final year.

Having completing her Maths degree, she studied for a Masters in Music at the University of York, specialising in Baroque vocal performance practice and graduating in July 2003. While at York, she also became involved in contemporary music, and enjoyed performing new works and exploring vocal techniques, leading her to set up the Szczepek Ensemble, with a mind to explore a variety of repertoire using just one voice per line.

Since then Rachael has been busy combining singing and teaching, organising the Szczepek Ensemble and getting married. She has recently moved to Sunningdale, where her husband Steve is curate of Holy Trinity, and has given up teaching to concentrate on singing.
